Gwen A. Irwin, 65, of Sioux City died Monday, April 7, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Allen D. Call officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Irwin was born Jan. 7, 1932, in Sioux City, the daughter of Ai LeGrande and Gwendolyn (Wallace) Wood. She graduated from East High School.

She married Robert M. Irwin on Jan. 2, 1951, in Sioux City.

She was employed as a purchasing agent for the U.S. government while her husband was in the service. She returned to Sioux City in 1969 and was employed at McCarthy and Kneifl Law Firm in South Sioux City until she became ill in 1979.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and did volunteer work for the American Diabetes Association.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jim and R. Brian, both of Sioux City; six daughters, Linda and her husband, Karl Tuxhorn, of Tucson, Ariz., Leigh and her husband, Ty Berry, of Littleton, Colo., Jayne Irwin, Debbie Bauer and Kathy Danielsen, all of Sioux City and Julie and her husband, Mark Malacarne, of Sarasota, Fla.; two brothers, LeGrande Wood and his wife, Jeannette, of Orlando, Fla. and John Wood of Edina, Minn.; three sisters, Virginia and her husband, Bob Ham, of Ramseur, N.C., Maralyn and her husband, Paul Zeman, of Waterman, Ill., and Nancy Casavant of Panama City, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Pat Wood of Panama City; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jim; and two grandchildren, Brett Michael Wagner and Aaron James Tillman.
