JAMES, Iowa - Erna Sophie Schindler, 94, of James died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997, at Plymouth Manor in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gerald Kapanka officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Schindler was born Nov. 8, 1903, in Utersen, Germany, the daughter of Richard A. and Sophia (Sevenosen) Boecher. She came to the United States and to Sioux City in 1921, becoming a U.S. citizen in 1929.

She married Frank Schindler on March 18, 1925, in Le Mars. The couple resided and farmed in the James area. He died Feb. 26, 1986, in James, Iowa.

She lived in the James area her entire adult life.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Walter and Arlene of James, Henry and Marlene of Hinton, Iowa, and William and Barbara of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Emma and Delbert McLain of Minneapolis, Minn.; a brother, Richard Boecher of Moville, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Emma, Millie, and Hertha.

Pallbearers will be Perry, Kevin, Douglas, Kim, and Keith Schindler, and Robert Kavrkal.
