HINTON, Iowa -- Curtis Donald Schoenrock, 49, of Hinton died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 4410 Central St., in Sioux City, with the Rev. David Schoop officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hinton. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church.

Curtis Donald Schoenrock was born Feb. 6, 1952, in Sioux City, to Eldon and Edna (Kowalke) Schoenrock. Curtis was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton. As a young boy, Curtis attended country school in Stanton Township and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1970. Following high school, Curtis enlisted with the 185th Iowa Air National Guard Unit in Sioux City.

He had worked for Hubbard Feeds and J. Myron Olson and Son Demolition, both in Sioux City, and with Burlington Northern Railroad as a conductor. Curtis was injured in a train derailment in 1986, ending his railroad career.

Curtis was united in marriage to Diane Franklin on April 19, 1980, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus, Iowa. Curt later worked for Rerat Law Firm in Sioux City. In 1988, Curtis began Schoenrock Construction, which he operated until his death. Curt had also fed cattle on his acreage for many years.

Curtis enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. Curt was a devout Hawkeyes and New York Yankees fan. Curtis was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he had served as a elder and later as a trustee. Curtis cherished his time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Schoenrock; two children, Ashley and Zachary, both at home; two brothers and their wives, Phillip and Gail Schoenrock and Douglas and Becky Schoenrock, all of Le Mars, Iowa; two stepsisters and their husbands, Marilyn and Mark Kreitzinger of Florida, and Malinda and Don Dyer of New Mexico; a sister-in-law, Karen Schoenrock of Hinton; his mother-in-law, Lois Franklin of Kingsley, Iowa; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Ken and Linda Franklin of Shellsburg, Iowa, and Dan and Sharon Franklin of Ames, Iowa; a sister-in-law and her husband, Jena and Rich Hoyt of Kennewich, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Edna Schoenrock; a brother, Jerry Schoenrock; his stepmother, Lydia Schoenrock; and his father-in-law, Darrell Franklin.
