HINTON, Iowa - Leona B. Lahrs, 78, of Sioux City, formerly of Hinton, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton, with the Rev. David Kottlowski officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.
Mrs. Lahrs was born July 9, 1920, in Le Mars, the daughter of Charles and Freida (Tobolt) Schoenrock. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was raised in the Le Mars and Merrill, Iowa area.
She married Wilfred Lahrs on Oct. 9, 1940, near Hinton. She was employed as a cook with Hinton Community School from 1958 until retiring in the mid 1980s.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she had taught Sunday School, Trinity Lutheran Fellowship Club and Ladies Aid. She had also volunteered as an election official in Hinton for many years.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Arlen of Lincoln, Neb., and Warren and his wife, Doris of Hinton; a daughter and her husband, Coeleen and Curt Keiser of Rapid City, S.D.; nine grandchildren, Toney, Kathy and Kourtnie Lahrs, Brent and Jeff Thompson, Lori Woods, Jodi Cook, Ben and Katie Rehling; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Lang of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Alfreida Schoenrock of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Nancy Lahrs; a sister, Louise Lang; and three brothers, Lester in infancy, Walter and Eldon Schoenrock.
Pallbearers will be Bruce and Steve Lahrs, Curt, Phil and Doug Schoenrock, Kendall, Dan and Dave Lang.
