Jerry Dewey, 61, of Westfield, Iowa passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at his home in Westfield.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Westfield Congregational United Church of Christ in Westfield. Pastor Barry Miedema will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be from noon until service time on Tuesday at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa is in charge of arrangements. Jerry Lee Dewey was born September 25, 1951 in Akron, Iowa the son of Duane and Dorothy (Rabey) Dewey. He attended school in Westfield until the 9th grade, when he stayed home to help his family after his father''s passing. When he became of age, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He received a medical discharge after training for six months.

He was united in marriage to Lynn Swanson. To this union, a daughter, Schauna was born. They were later divorced. Later, he married Marcia Leekley on June 16, 1988. Early on, Jerry worked for I.B.P. in Sioux City and later as a farmhand for a local farmer. He had also worked for SmithCo in Le Mars and for Finzen''s Piggery. Most recently, he had worked for Gabel Farms until retiring due to his health.

Through the years, Jerry enjoyed tinkering with mowers, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed going to tractor pulls and watching drag racing. But most of all, he loved the times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of over 24 years, Marcia of Westfield; his children: Schauna Carson of Sioux City and her children, Meagan, Mitia, and Violet, Nathan (Becky) Leekley of Akron and their children, Michael, Lillian, and Margarette, Greg Dewey of Akron, and Missy Dewey of Akron and her son, Wyatt; a great grandson: Draven Carson; a brother: Dennis (Rebecca) Dewey of Georgia; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother: Leslie Dewey; and his sister: Rita Faust.
