TRESLER—At the family home in Akron, Iowa, Sunday, May 17, 1908, Mrs. A. J. Tresler, of septicaemia, aged 41 years, 2 months and 13 days.
There were more than the usual sad circumstances surrounding this death. She had been ill less than two weeks and her death came quite unexpectedly and with crushing force to the family.
Ida Lucy Batchelder was born in Sandy Hill, Washington County, New York, on March 4, 1867. With her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Batchelder, she came west to Belmond, Wright County, Iowa, in February, 1868. They soon moved from there to Hudson, S. D., and then located on a homestead about seven miles northwest of Akron, in Union County, S. D., where deceased grew to young womanhood. December 18, 1888, she married A. J. Tresler. To them were born nine children, of whom two daughters and six sons survive—Mrs. Juulia Berfeind, of Stickney, S.D., Viola, Ira, Lloyd, Walter, Lee, Vintie and Merle, the baby.
Besides the children and bereaved husband, there are left to mourn her untimely taking away her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Batchelder, of this city, three sisters and five brothers, to all of whom this community tenders its sympathy.
She was a kind, devoted wife and mother, and highly esteemed by all who knew her. She led an exemplary Christian life, having united with the Christian church several years ago.
Funeral services, held Tuesday afternoon in the Christian church, were largely attended. Rev. W. T. Ratcliffe delivered a particulary touching sermon, offerin consolation to the mourning ones. Intement was made in Riverside Cemetery.
Among the relatives present at the funeral from a distance were her daughter, Mrs. L. J. Berfeind, of Stickney, S. D.; her brothers, N. A. and family, of Stickney, and Chas. And family, of Elk Point; Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Batchelder, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Covey and daughter, and Mrs. Blomberg, of Hawarden; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Moran, of Chatsworth, A. D. Covey, of Sioux City. Her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Alf. Tresler, from Hot Springs, S. D., and her brother, John Batchelder, of Jamestown, N. D., did not arrive until after the funeral.
