Gareith Renken Jr.

Gareith J . Renken Jr. 77, LeMars, lifelong Plymouth County resident, died Tuesday (Feb. 19, 1985) at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, Sioux City, after an extended illness. He was admitted to the hospital Feb. 16.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church. Grant Township. Rev. Jack Hebard will officiate and burial will be in Grant Township cemetery under direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. A prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

He was born Jan. 4, 1908, in Preston Township to Gareith and Reaka Oetken Renken. He manned Etta Frerichs Nov. 16.1933, at Craig. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township.

Mr. Renken was active in church and community affairs and was a member of the Grant Township school board and Farmer's Elevator board. He was a longtime member of the church council, building committee and bell tower committee. He was also a member of the Pioneer Machinery Club. Antique Car Club and South Dakota Draft Horse Association.

Surviving are his wife. Etta Renken, LeMars; his mother. Reaka Renken; a son. Virgil Renken and his wife, Joyce, all of LeMars; a daughter, Ardis Johnson and husband Jerry. LeMars; two brothers, Walter of LeMars and Herman of Akron; a sister. Mrs. Ed (Luella) Hoppe. Aurora, Colo.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
