BASEBALL ACCIDENT FATAL

O'Reilly Dies at Hospital From Injures Received,

Sioux City Journal 14:—Patrick Elmer O'Reilly, of Akron, the young man who was the victim of such a peculiar baseball accident a couple of weeks ago at Alcester S D.died yesterday afternoon at St Joseph hospital.

O'Reilly's back bad been broken while taking a slide to second base in a game between Akron and Alcester on the Alcester diamond. When he dove for second base the iron pin that holds the bag in position, struck him on top of the head. He at once became paralyzed except in his hands and head and was brought to St. Joseph's hospital at Sioux City. Dr. Van Buren Knott performed an operation removing the pressure from the spinal cord and alleviating the paralysis, but the best surgical assistance could not save O'Reilly's life.

Patrick Elmer O'Reilly was the only son of P. X O'Rielly, a well known resident of Akron. He had attended school at St. Joseph's academy at Dubuque and Dixon college at Dixon, 111. He was twenty-five years of age and leaves a father, mother and two sisters. The remains will be taken to the home at Akron where the funeral will occur tomorrow morning. Tho deceased man was a nephew of E. J. Ressegien, of this city.
