OBITUARY OF MRS.O'RIELLY

Was a Resident of Akron and Vicinity Since the Year 1874

Mention was made in these columns last week of the death of Mrs. P. X O'Rielly on Saturday evening, October 18, 1930, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank J. Coyle, west of here, in Union county, S. D. at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 3 days, of heart trouble.

Catherine Coleman was born July 15, 1849 at Orilla, Ontario, Canada. With her parents, John Coleman and Winifred Scanlon Coleman, she came to the United States at the age of 16 years, locating in Pennsylvania. On January 27, 1874, she was united in marriage with Patrick X. O'Rielly at Titusville, Pa., and they immediately came to Union county, S. D., (then Dakota Territory), where in the fall of 1868 he had located on a homestead west of the present site of Akron, Iowa. There they met and successfully overcame the privations and hardships of early day life In a new country, such as drouth, floods, prairie fires and grasshopper visitations. About the year 1888, Mr. and Mrs. O'Rielly decided to retire from active farming and the family moved to Akron and made this place their permanent home, Mr. O'Rielly looking after, his extensive, farming interests and engaging in several business enterprises here.. He preceded his wife in death on February 18, 1920.

Mrs. O'Rielly is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frank J. Coyle and Mrs. Willard F. Keane, of Akron. One son, Elmer, passed away in young manhood about twenty-five years ago. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Dan Shyne, of Rapid City, S. D., and Mrs. Maria Cornish, of Plant City, Fla. and one brother, John Coleman, of Portland, Ore. There are several grandchildren. A kind and devoted wife and mother, a helpful and sympathetic friend and neighbor, always a willing contributor to charity and those in need or distress, she lived a well-rounded and useful life and gained a host of friends who regret her departure and extend deep sympathy, to the bereaved relatives.

There was a large attendance at the funeral services, held Tuesday morning of last week in St. Patrick's Catholic church, of which she was a devout member. Services were conducted by Rev. Fr. J. A. Roder. interment was in the local Catholic cemetery.
