Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Mrs. Schafer

Funeral services for Mrs. George H. Schafer, 81, who died Sunday afternoon at the Panska Nursing Home after a long illness, were held at 10 o’clock Wednesday morning in St. Mary’s Church. Fr. Wendel officiated with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home. The rosary was recited by St. Mary’s Guild at 7:30 and at 8 o’clock Tuesday evening.

Margaret Marie Burnight, daughter of John and Ann Burnight, was born April 13, 1879, at Monticello, Iowa. In 1902 she married George H. Schafer and for three years resided at Akron, Iowa, later moving to Chatsworth where they were long time residents in that vicinity.

Following the death of her husband in 1949, Mrs. Schafer made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Lucile Kelley in Hawarden. Later, as her health failed she entered the nursing home.

Mrs. Schafer attended school at St. Francis Academy at Council Bluffs, was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a charter member of the Royal Neighbors.

She was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lucile Kelley of Hawarden and Mrs. Elive Easton of Elma, Wash. Three brothers, Charles Burnight, of Sioux City; Henry and William Burnight, of Chatsworth; a sister Mrs. Lawrence Gibbons of Westfield, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
