Note: Her mother's maiden name was Hopkins. Her gravestone is listed as Mrs. James Trautt and it has her year of birth as 1863.

Mrs. Marcella Trautt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Burnight, pioneer residents of this vicinity, was born October 22, 1861, in Jones County, Iowa, where she spent her girlhood days, and where she married James E. Trautt, February 23, 1879. They moved to O’Neill, Nebraska, in 1883 and came to Plymouth County, Iowa, about five years later, residing on a farm south of this city, for a number of years.

In 1903 the family moved to Wisconsin and after a residence of about two years there located in Ohio. About three years later, July 6, 1907, Mr. Trautt was killed by the cars near Mt. Vernon, Ohio, after which Mrs. Trautt and children returned to Akron, and this has since been their home.

Ten children were born to them, eight of whom survive, all living in this vicinity, as follows; John, James, William, Frank, Thomas, Mary (rs. Wm. Strobehn), Frances and Anne.

Mrs. Trautt died March 23, 1910, in St. Joseph’s hospital, Sioux City, Ia., following an operation for appendicitis. Her last illnss covered a period of only a little more than a week.

She was a faithful and devoted wife and mother, and since the death of her husband the welfare f her children has been her unceasing concern, which adds greatly to their bereavement in hr untimely taking away.

Funeral services, conducted in St. Patricks’s Catholic Church last Friday by Rev. D. K. Hurley, were largely attended, testifying to the great esteem in which she was held by all holding her acquaintance. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery.
