Franz Varenhorst Claimed By Death
Well Known Farmer Here Many Years
Death claimed Franz Varenhorst, 81, long time resident of Plymouth County and well known farmer in Johnson Township, at the home of his son, H. W. Varenhorst, Tuesday after a brief illness.
Mr. Varenhorst had been in failing health for three years due to the weight of increasing age. He was taken seriously ill Saturday.
Franz B. Varenhorst was born May 1, 1858, at Etzel, Germany, where he grew up and was married to Anna Maria Kaster in 1884. They came to America in 1891 and lived in Nebraska for a year an the settled in Plymouth County and farmed land in Preston and Grant Township. Mr Varenhorst made his home with his son since 1911.
A son, Rudolph, died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Paul Schulz, died in 1919. His wife died in 1893.
He is survived by his son, H. W. Varenhorst, and eight grandchildren.
When a boy Mr. Varenhoorst was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
The funeral will be held this Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock a the Lutheran church in Johnson Township with Rev. F. Bunge of Christ Church, Mammen, officiating and the interment made in the Grant Township Cemetery.
Pallbearers, old friends and neighbors are: George Borchers, August Herzberg, Edwin Kleme Fred Kuehn, Otto Kuehn, and Jos. Pollock,
The Mauer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
