Mrs. Elsie Varenhhorst
Mrs. Elsie Johanna Varenhorst, 70, 300 First St. SW, died Sunday at Sioux City St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after an illness of several months. She has been hospitalized seven weeks.
Mrs. Varenhorst was a seamstress and in recent years was a housekeeper at the St. James parish house.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. John’s American Lutheran church with Rev. Arnold Imbrock officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran church cemetery at Craig under direction of the Mauer funeral home.
The former Elsie Johanna Becker, she was born Nov. 6, 1900, at Jever, Germany, a daughter of the late August and Maria Bert Becker. She came to Le Mars Aug. 4, 1923, and had resided here since. She married Henry R. Varenhorst Nov. 28, 1924 at Craig. Mrs. Varenhorst was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry in December 1956, four sisters and a brother in Germany.
Survivors are two sons, Norman and Elmer Varenhorst, both of Le Mars; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Beverly) Jurgenson of Sioux City; four step sons Erwin of Ireton, William and Fritz, both of Le Mars and Harry of Merrill; a step daughter, Mrs. Lilliie Hansen of Farmington, Minn., and for sisters and a brother, all in Germany.
Surviving also are 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
