Note: His wife's maiden name varies at times from different sources such as other obituaries and family trees so I have added them all. His last name also varies and sometimes may be spelled Varenhoorst.
Rudolph Varenhorst
Rudolph Varenhorst died at 7 o’clock Sunday evening, February 19, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Schultz, in Washington, where, he lived for the past six years. The immediate cause of his death was a heart attack, but he had suffered for several weeks with infirmities due to his advanced age.
Rudolph Varenhorst was born in Germany, Nov. 22, 1855, and came to this country as a young boy, locating first in Nebraska. He then lived for a time in Illinois and came to Iowa in 1888 and had lived in Plymouth County fifty years. In 1878 Mr. Varenhorst was married at Petersburg, Ill., to Margret Schaefer, who preceded him in death five years ago.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Chas. Schultz, of Washington, and Mrs. Henry Varenhorst, of Johnson, and a grandson, Donald Varenhorst.
The funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, February 23, with Rev. L. L. Belk, pastor of the church officiating and burial will be in Le Mars Cemetery.
