Note: Her maiden name varies at times from different sources such as other obituaries and family trees so I have added them all. Her married last name also varies and sometimes may be spelled Varenhoorst.

Theresa Varenhorst Pioneer Resident Claimed By Death

Death claimed Mrs. Theresa Margaret Varenhorst, at her home west of Le Mars, Tuesday afternoon, after a lingering illness, at the age of 74 years.

Mrs. Varenhorst was born in Bohlenberg, Grossherzogtum, Oldenburg Germany, April 9, 1860, and came to this country with her parents in 1860. They located near Petersburg, Ill., where she grew to young womanhood and was married to Rudolph Varenhorst in 1878. They farmed in that community for ten years and ten came to Plymouth County and settled on a farm in Johnson Township where they farmed successfully for several years. Of late years they lived with their daughter, Mrs. Charles A. Schultz.

Mrs. Varenhorst was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, in this city, and was faithful worker in the church and the Ladies Aid Society. She was a good Christian, a devoted wife and a mother, a pleasant neighbor and friend.

Her death is mourned by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Charlie Schultz and Mrs. Lydia Varenhoorst, one grandchild, and two sisters living in Illinois.

The funeral will be held from the Schultz home Friday afternoon at 1:45, and services will be conducted at 2:30 in St. John’s church, Rev. J. J. Vollmar, pastor officiating.
