Death Takes Carl Schultz
Aged Settler Succumbs To an Illness Lasting Two Months
Owned Several FarmsDeath claimed Carl H. Schultz, at his home, 108 First Avenue NW, in this city, at an early hour Sunday morning, following an illness of about two months. Death was due to pneumonia following an operation he recently underwent for an internal malady. Mr. Schultz was in the hospital for two or three weeks and had sufficiently recovered to be taken to his home and was thought to be on the road to recovery when he contracted a cold which developed into pneumonia. His age and weakened condition precluded his recovery. Mr. Schultz was nearly 80 years of age and had enjoyed a long life of rugged health prior to his last illness.
Carl H. Schultz was born near the city of Berlin in Germany, March 20, 1850, and received his early schooling and worked on a farm. He was married to Millie Peterson In 1872 and shortly after their marriage they, came to America to seek their fortunes. They located near Sterling, 111., where a number of their country people were already settled. They farmed near there for six years and then came to Iowa, locating in Boone county where they lived four years. From there they came to Plymouth county 1886 and rented the Richardson farm at Morf’s Lake for a short time
Was Successful Farmer
Mr. Schultz, a short time after arriving in Plymouth' county, bought a farm in Washington township and by dint of hard work and industry prospered and increased his land holdings until he. became wealthy. He retired from farm life sixteen years ago and, has since made his home in Le Mars. His wife died In May 1925. He is survived by ten children, who are: Mrs. E. F. Frericks, of Marion township Charles and Mrs Ed Harms, of Washington township, Ira Schultz, Sioux City; Mrs., Bertha Rogers, of Le Mars, Frank of Washington, Mrs, Gerd Null of Brunsville, Henry of Grant, Jack, living at home place and Mrs. Clarence Wagner township. There are thirty-three, grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in St. John's Lutheran church. Rev. J. J. Vollmar, officiating, and the interment made in the Le Mars cemetery.
Mr. Schultz was widely known, especially among the older residents, and was liked in the community by his associates. He was a successful farmer and a good citizen and respected by many
