Death Claims Old Resident
MRS. CARL H. SCHULTZ CAME TO AMERICA SHORTLY AFTER HER MARRIAGE
Mrs. Schultz, wife of Carl H. Schultz, residing at 108 First avenue NW, died at a local hospital Monday evening, following an operation for kidney trouble. Mrs. Schultz had been in poor health for sometime and an operation was advised by attending physicians and was undertaken Sunday. Her weakened condition and long illness militated against her recovery.
Mrs. Schultz was a pioneer resident of Plymouth county and resided on a farm in Washington township for many years, later moving to Le Mars to spend her declining years.
Her maiden name was Emilie Peters and she was born in Pomerania, Germany, in October, 1855, where she grew to young womanhood and was united in marriage with Carl H. Schultz. They were looking forward to celebrating their golden wedding next fall, when death intervened.
Shortly after their marriage they immigrated to America and joined a number of their countrymen who had settled near Sterling, Illinois. They farmed there a few years and then came to Iowa and settled in Benton county. In the eighties they came to Plymouth county and bought land in Washington township, where they farmed successfully and by hard work and patient industry prospered, acquired more land and became wealthy. They came to Le Mars a few years ago, leaving their farms to the care of their children, and established a fine home in which to pass the autumn of their days.
Mrs. Schultz is survived by her husband and children, who are Ira Schultz, of Leeds; Mrs. Ed Frericks, of Marion township: Charles, Mrs. Ed Harms, Mrs. Bertha Rogers, Frank; Mrs. Gerd Null, Henry, John and Mrs. Clarence Wagner, of Washington, township. There are twenty-eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and four sisters who are Adolph Peters of Merrill; Charles Peters of Washington township, Mrs. August Utesch of Le Mars; Mrs Will Hammond of Merrill; Mrs. Gus Forester of Sterling, Illinois; and Mrs. Wm. Giffrow of Le Mars.
Mrs.Schultz was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and active in the work of its kindred societies. She was a loving wife and mother and home maker and devoted her life to her family, thinking no task too arduous if it contributed to their well being and happiness. She was respected in a large circle of friends.
The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at St. John;s Lutheran Church and were largely attended by old friends and neighbors. Rev. J. J. Vollmar conducted the services.
