Vera Ethel McMahon

Vera Ethel McMahon, 78, of Sioux City, Iowa, and formerly of Akron, iowa died May 19, 1998, at St Lukes Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services were Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron with burial at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Akron.

Vera Ethel Willer was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Akron, the daughter of John and Bessie (Raisch) Willer. She attended elementary and high school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1937. On January 13, 1945, Vera married Bernard McMahon. The couple farmed near Akron until Bernard died in 1957. Vera then worked for many years at Paul's IGA in Akron. She later moved to Sioux City and worked at Woolco until 1983 when she retired.

Survivors include her daughter Ruth Ann Hicks and her husband Doug of Sioux City; and one grandson Matthew Hicks of Dennison, Iowa; 3 sisters, Betty Jean Hamman of Navato, CA, Donna Martin and her husband Glen of Akron, Iowa, Belva Waters ad her husband Marvin of Ocheyedan, Iowa; 1 brother, Dwain Willer of Akron, Iowa.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters: Stella Claussen and Helen Dirks.
