Mrs. Earl (Freda) Gillam
Mrs. Earl (Freda) Gillam, 83, Carthage, S.D. died May 25,1983 in the Good Samaritan Center in Howard, S.D. after a long illness.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran church in Carthage. Rev. Tim Hubert officiated. Burial was in Graceland cemetery in Howard, S.D.
Freda Popken Gillam was born July 28, 1899 to Fred and Dedrieka Popken in Plymouth county, Iowa. She married John Ommen Dec. 7,1916. They farmed in Iowa and South Dakota. She married Earl Gillam, December 24, 1950. They farmed in Miner county, South Dakota until retiring to Carthage.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, American Legion auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge and Gold Star Mothers.
She is survived by her husband, Earl, Carthage; three sons, Ervin F. Ommen, Dell Rapids, S.D., Melvin W. Ommen, Henry, S.D., Donald J. Ommen, Rathdrum, Idaho; two daughters, Vera Pasewalk, Hawthorne, Calif., and Mrs. Gerald (Bernice) Henrich of Akron; three step sons, Delbert Gillam, Rathdrum, Idaho; Bruce Gillam, Madison, S.D.; George Gillam, Spokane, Wash.; one step-daughter, Alice White, Salem, Oregon; nine grandchildren; four brothers, Fred Popken, rural Ireton, George Popken, Wilmington, Del., Elmer Popken, Hudson, S.D. and William Popken, LeMars, and three sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Tillie) Lamoureux, Akron, Mrs. Catherine Bloomquist, and Theresa Rohlfs both of Randolph, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, one son, Henry W. Ommen, two infant daughters, three brothers and two sisters.
