The first victim of Spanish influenza in Akron was Mrs. Earl Beeler, who passed away at the family home here on Monday morning, November 18, 1918, after a brief illness. Mrs. Beeler was taken ill after nursing her husbnd during a erious illness of the same malady.
Gunda Kjose was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kose, well known resident of Burle township, Union county, S.D., where the family has resided for many years. She was born there on New Year's Eve, 1889, where she resided until her marriage to Earl Beeler six years ago last August.
To them were born four children, a daughter aged five years, and three sons aged three years, two years and three months. She is also mourned by her parents and the following brothers and sisters: Olaf, with the American Expeditionary Forces in France: Martin, at Camp Funston, Kan: Bertha, Alfred, Theodore, Mabel and May Kjose, at home.
Mrs. Beeler was a young woman of manny fine qualities, a kind and devoted wife and mother a dutiful daughter and a loving sister. She was a helpful neighbor and a true and sympathetic friend, and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. To the bereaved husband and motherless children the parents, brothers and sisters, the entire community offers it sincere sympathy.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. E. Volck, of the Baptist church, Tuesday afternoon at Riverside cemetery, where interment was made.
Relatives who came from a distance to attend the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Richard Olson, of Obert, Nebr.; Mrs. Martin kjose and daughter, May, of Sioux City. Private Martin Kjose came from Camp Funston, but arrivd too late to attend his sister's funeral.
