HERMAN UTECH PASSES DIVIDE
Prominent Farmer and Stockman in Elgin For Many Years
SUFFERS LONG ILLNESS
Double Bereavement in Family Within A WeekDeath claimed Herman Utech, aged 67, prominent farmer and citizen of Plymouth county and resident of LeMars in later years at the Sacred Heart hospital Saturday, July 8, following an operation.
Mr. Utech for a number of years had been a sufferer from gall bladder trouble and last week was taken to the hospital tor treatment where an operation was deemed imperative.
Mr. Utech had made his home In LeMars since retiring from his occupation of farming in Elgin township. He was rated as a successful farmer and stock raiser and was regarded by all who knew him as an honest and upright citizen, a good neighbor and friend.
Herman Utech was a native of Germany where he was born in 1866 and was 67 years, 5 months and 18 days old at the time of his demise.
When he was a baby his parents emigrated from Germany to the United States. They located near Bloomington, Illinois., and came to Plymouth county when Herman was nine years old. Herman Utech was educated in the country schools and assisted in the work on the farm and on attaining manhood engaged in farming on his own account. He was united in marriage with Miss Bertha Piepenberg, December 20, 1889.
He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters, G. W. Utech, Mrs. Harry Buss and Miss Elsie Utech. There are five grandchildren. One son preceded him in death. He also leaves four brothers, A. F. Utech, Wm. Utech, C. J. Utech and F. A. Utech, all of this vicinity.
Six Nephews Pall bearers
The funeral was held from the home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and services were held In St. Paul's Methodist church, Rev. S. C Steinbrenner.
Six nephews acted as pall bearers and carried the body to its resting place in the city cemetery In the family burial ground. The Utech family are doubly bereaved within a week, Mrs. Fred Utech passing away July 3.
