Mabel W. (Clark) Meister, 83, of Le Mars passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Le Mars. Rev. Jon Meredith will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters and pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Mabel Willamina Biesbrock was born on March, 27 1932 in Hawarden, Iowa to Marion and Helen Adel (Hodgson) Biesbrock on her grandparent’s farm. She attended high school in Alcester, South Dakota. She later furthered her education by completing night classes through Western Iowa Technical Community College in culinary and cake decorating as well as nurse’s aide.
On April 9, 1951, Mabel married Alvine Roscoe Clark at the Alcester Baptist Church. From this union they had four marvelous children. Together they celebrated 38 years. Mabel was a farm wife and then worked at Koilcraft while in Alcester. The family moved to Le Mars, Iowa in 1964. Mabel worked for Floyd Valley Hospital. With her best friend Carol Steenhoven, they opened a new home business titled ‘Cakes and Things’ where they were recognized for their wedding cakes and more. Mabel worked with her husband Alvine cleaning banks and businesses in Le Mars, followed by caring for residents at Plymouth Manor and Brentwood Good Samaritan Center. She also worked at Harker’s Meats for seven years. Alvine passed away in July of 1989.
On August 25, 1992, Mabel married Arnold Francis Meister at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Mabel gained seven beautiful children and their lovely families. Together they lived in Le Mars. They were married 22 years. Arnold passed away on September 26, 2014.
Mabel was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Le Mars where she participated by being a deaconess and member of Ladies Circle. She loved her family, friends, and gathering together. She will be remembered by her grandchildren for all of the fun games and laughs they would share together. She also had a great appreciation for music.
Grateful to have shared in her life is her son, Guy (Kelly) Clark of Sioux City, Iowa; son-in-law, Ernie Eason of Orange City, IA; daughters-in-law, Deborah Kellen of Le Mars, Joelle Clark-Frazer of Omaha, NE; Arnie’s children, Debbie (Rick) DeWolfe of Plant City, FL, David (Teresa) Meister and Doug (Mary) Meister both of Omaha, NE, Dennis (Kim) Meister of Roseville, CA, Diane (Steve) Harney of Chillicothe, IL, Denise Meister-Guevara and Darcy (Juan) Meister both of Council Bluffs, IA; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Madsen of Anthon, IA; two brothers, Bruce (Darlene) Elving and Leonard Elving of Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces and nephews, and lastly her furry friend, Sam.
Celebrating with her in Heaven is her mother and father, Helen and Marion; stepfathers, Harvey Finch and Oscar Elving; brother, John Elving; husbands, Alvine and Arnold; sons, Clair Allen and Loren David; a daughter, Dawn Adel Eason; a grandson Jashua James Clark, a great granddaughter, Allie Rae DeJong, 2 great grandsons, Tyler and Travis DeWolfe; and a brother-in-law, Larry Madsen. Memorials in Mabel’s name may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
