Cancer Causes Death Of George W. Ahrens

George Ahrens, a resident of this vicinity since the early eightis, died at the hospital at Akron, Iowa, last Saturday, November 25th, after a long illness. Death was caused by a cancer.

George William Ahrens was born in Kendall county, Ill., June 5th, 1862, being the third son of Amelia and Henry Ahrens. He came to Madison county, Iowa, in 1870 with his parents and then to Plymouth county in 1883. He was united in marriage to Mamie Hodgeman on Oct. 12, 1891. To this union were born three children. One daughter, Mrs. Bernice Roberts, died in 1929.

With his family he lived on farms in Plymouth and Woodbury counties since 1891, with the exception of two years spent in Montana. His wife died Jan. 15, 1822.

On May 25, 1933, he was admitted to the hospital in Akron, suffering from cancer. After a long illness he passed away Nov. 25th.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Oscar Bahmer, and a son, Herbert, both of Kingsley, and five grandchildren, five sisters, Anna Hempel, Wagner, S. D., Carrie Maurer, Kimball, S. D., Emma Riordan, Correctionville, Louise Case, and Minnie Ahrens, both of Kingsley, and one brother, August Ahrens, of Kingsley.

Services were held on Monday afternoon from the Congregational church with Rev. Jos. Steele, of Sioux City, in charge being a special request of the deceased. The remains were laid to rest in the Kingsley cemetery.

Mr. Ahrens was a kindly man, a good friend and neighbor, and will be missed by many. He has answered the call and accepted the promise of the master who said: "Come unto me all ye who labor, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
