Fred Harrison Came to Plymouth County in Early Seventies

SCION OF OLD FAMILY

Was Descendant of Sighner of Historic Document

A stroke of paralysis suffered several weeks ago, resulted Thursday in the death of Fred Harrison, a former Plymouth county farmer, at his home, 4025 Madison avenue, Leeds. Mr. Harrison's health gradually had failed him since he suffered the stroke.

He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 1850, where he lived until he was 25 years of age, when he came to Iowa, and subsequently purchased a farm in Lincoln township, Plymouth county. Mr. Harrison was a successful farmer for many years. He retired a short time ago and took up his residence in Leeds.

He is survived by his widow, Celia, two sons, Victor, who resides on the old homestead near Hinton, and Russell, who lived with his parents.

The funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at Olivet Presbyterian Church, Leeds. Rev. A. M. McIntosh officiated. Interment was made in the Lincoln township cemetery.

Fred Harrison was a member of a family of fifteen children, who have all preceded him in death, except his youngest brother, Samuel Harrison, who lived in seattle, Wash. He also leaves five grandchildren, fred Harrison, rs. Mildred McKibbin and Gladys, of Hinton, and Beulah A. Harrison and Celia J. Harrison, of Leades.

Descendant of Signer

A very large cortege of old friends and neighbors attended the funeral and a large processin followed the remains to the country cemetery. Few among those who attended the services knew that the friend whose death they were mourning was a direct descendant of Benjamin harrison one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Although having an ancestry of which few boast, Mr. Harrison seldom shared of it except to personal friends, and it was not until it was told at the funeral service that it became generally know, that he ahd the blood of one of America's greatest patriots in his veins.
