Note: His wife's maiden name was Mase and his mother's maiden name was Speer.

Howard Bammer, who was born and raised in this vicinity of Pierson, died Monday evening at the wheel of an Estherville school bus while returning children to their homes after school.

A young girl grabbed the wheel, turned off the ignition and kept the bus in the road until it stopped.

Bammer lived in Cherokee for a time before he went to Estherville eight years ago where he operated an ice cream store.

He would have been 51 years old in January.
