Anne (Miller) Andresen was born October 7, 1924, in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, to Gerd Miller and Anna (Weyen) Miller. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Christ Lutheran Church Grant Township. Her mother died in childbirth and she was raised by foster parents, Albert & Martha Collmann (her mother’s sister). She attended Center School in Preston Township through the 8th grade. She was confirmed April 2, 1939, by Rev. Bunge at Christ Lutheran Church Grant Township.
Anne married Raymond J. Andresen on January 12, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. They farmed together in Union County, South Dakota, for 28 years, during which time they began to raise their four daughters. She was a wonderful housewife, tending to her children, her home, her garden, her flowers and preparing meals and lunches for Ray, the kids and sometimes neighbors who came to help with the field work. They built a house and moved to Akron in 1973, where she continued to care for her family and home.
Anne was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as President of the Martha Circle for many years. She also sewed mission quilts on Do Day and at home. After they met at a dance, she enjoyed dancing with her husband for many years. They enjoyed travelling, especially to visit their daughters, and for a few years they took their camper to Cutty’s Resort in Okoboji for a relaxing time with family and friends. Her favorite thing to do was to sit on the porch with Ray, and they were often joined by family, neighbors and friends passing by. She also loved to watch the birds flying in and out of the birdhouse outside the porch.
Anne was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and she enjoyed spending time with her family. She always enjoyed preparing meals and baking yummy goodies for everyone when she still could. We will miss her beautiful smile and the sound of her laughter.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 70 years, Raymond; four daughters, Sandy and her husband, Ed Johnson, of Cottonwood, Arizona, Marilyn and her husband, Evan Johnson, of Akron, Iowa, Jane and her husband, Bola Olorundami, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mary and her husband, Jack Ratzsch, of Bloomington, Illinois; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Eilers, of Houston, Texas, and half-brother, Alvin Miller, of LeMars, Iowa;
Anne was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Ann; her birth parents, Gerd & Anna Miller, and her foster parents, Albert & Martha Collmann.
Anne and her family would like to thank the entire staff of the Akron Care Center for the loving care she received while living there, especially during her last days; also Hospice of Siouxland for their efforts in keeping Anne comfortable and for guiding our family through the decision-making process.
Memorials can be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron.
