Sustained Fatal Burns In Gas Explosion Accident Feb. 22

Miss Anna Mollhoff, a niece of Mrs. Anna Degen, of this city, passed away at the Hawarden Hospital last Thursday morning, March 17, 1949.

She was the victim of an unusual accident when she suffered severe burns about her body by the explosion of gas which had seeped into the basement of her home in Hawarden from the outside on February 22. She was rushed to the hospital there for treatment and care and for a time there appeared to be hope for her recovery; but her condition became suddenly critical on Monday, March 8. Everything humanly possible was done for her, but without avail. She attained the age of 49 years, 3 months, and 35 days.

Anna Marie Mollhoff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mollhoff, was born in Portland township, Plymouth county, Iowa, November 23, 1898. She was confirmed in Trinity Lutheran church in Akron, December 17, 1899, and confirmed in the same church on December 31, 1925. Most of her life was spent in the vicinities of Akron and Hawarden. The past few years she lived with her brother, John, in Hawarden.

Left to mourn her untimely departure are her two brothers, John and William Mollhoff, of Hawarden; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Brownmiller, of Sioux City, and Mrs. John Hartman, of Hawarden, besides other relatives and a host of friends, by whom she was highly esteemed for her many fine qualities. To the sorrowing relatives there is extended widespread sympathy in their bereavement.

Memorials were given in her memory to the Trinity Lutheran Memorial Pipe Organ Fund, the Red Cross, the Akron Hospital and other causes.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:00 p.m., in a funeral home at Hawarden and at 2:00 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran church, Akron, conducted by Rev. J. A. Pannkuk. The Trinity choir sang two sacred selections, "Asleep in Jesus" and "Abide With Me." Interment was in Riverside Cemetery
