DIED

At the family home east of Chatsworth, Iowa, Wm. H. Moehlhoff succumbed to cancer of the stomach Saturday, October 30, 1909, after a period of sickness covering one year and a half.

William Henry Moehlohoff was born in Neuenburg, Oldenburg, Germany, January 19, 1863, and lived to the age of 46 years, 9 months and 11 days. In 1881 he came to the United States and first located at Cincinnati. After remaining there about six months he moved west to Jones county, Ia.

Near Monticello, this state, on January 16, 1889, he married Catherine Vanderham, who survives him. To them were born three sons and three daughters, one son dying in infancy. Eighteen years ago the family moved from Jones county to Plymouth county, locating on a farm northeast of Akron, where they lived until the spring of 1907.

They then moved onto a farm he had purchased near Colby, Kansas. After two years of residence there the family came back to its present home on account of Mr. Moehlhoff's continued illness. On the 27th of last March he was operated on here for cancer at the office of Drs. Cilley & Kerr and for a time made encouraging improvement, but during the past two months has been gradually declining. Death came as a welcome relief to great suffering, which he has borne with much patience, courage and Christian fortitude.

He was a most diligent toiler, honest and upright in all his affairs, and highly respected by all who knew him. The community tenders its sympathy to the wife and children in their great sorrow. He is also survived by a step-mother, two half-brothers and two half-sisters in Germany.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon in the German Lutheran church at Chatsworth, of which he was a member, by the pastor, Rev. Fred A. Meske. The edifice would not accommodate the large number of friends assembled to pay their last respects. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
