ESTEEMED AKRON FARMER CALLED BY DEATH FRIDAY

Last Rites Are Held For Isaac Harris On Monday Afternoon

In the death of Isaac Harris at his home about three miles northeast of town last Friday evening, October 6, 1939, at 9:45 o'clock, this community lost one of its most substantial and highly respected citizens. He had been known to be afficted with a heart ailment and his health had not been good for a year or more, but he had been up and about the day of his death and his sudden passing came as a grievous shock to his family and friends. He attained the age of 69 years, 6 months, and 3 days.

Isaac Harris, son of Isaac and Elizabeth Harris, was born April 3, 1870, at Barneveld, Wis., and grew to manhood in that vicinity. On January 26, 1897, he was united in marriage with Mary Ellen Coyle. They then moved to Akron, where they have since resided on a farm, northeast of town, in Portland township. Their union was blessed with four children--two daughters and two sons.

Mr. Harris was a successful farmer stock raiser and feeder. he also held various public offices in the community, being township clerk for twenty years, treasurer of the Portland township school district for twenty-five years, an has been a director of the Farmers' Grain Co., of Akron, since the organization of the company, serving as its vice president at the time of his death. A man of sterling character, upright and honorable in all his dealings and faithful to every trust he gained the confindence and esteem of a wide circle of acquaintances. Always atking a keen interest in the affairs of the community in which he lived for more than fourty years, his counel and assistance will be greatly missed, as eill also be his genial personality. He was a kind and loving husband and father and always ready to help a friend or neighbor.

Relatives who survive are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Wayne Snyder, of Akron, and Mrs. G. W. Mills, of Wall, S. D.; two sons, Cecil and Virgil Harris, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Harvey Jones, of Madison, Wis., and Mrs. Thos. Jones, of Barneveld, Wis.; two brothers, David and William Harris, of Barneveld, Wis.; 4 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. The many friends of the bereaved family extend their sincere sympathy.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the home and at 2:30 o'clock at the First Baptist church in Akron, conducted by Rev. L. G. Williams, the pastor. A duet was sung by Misses Mary Burket and Dorothy Johson, with Miss Charlotte Baker at the organ. There was a large attendance at the church and at the burial service in Riverside cemetery. The pallbearers--neighbors and business associates--were; F. F. McElhaney, L. D. Ross, Ben Smyser, B. A. Adams, Wm. Manning and Jno. H. Earnest.

Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were: Dr. and Mrs. G. W. Mills and daughter, of Wall, S. D.; David Harris and Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Jones and daughter, Mrs. Massey, of Barneveld, Wis.; Eugene Coyle, of Corsica, S. D. J. L. Putnam, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Putnam and Mr. and Mrs. John Granville, of Armour, S. D.; Mrs. Lawrence Chiacoine, of Jefferson, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. John Kuck, of Centerville, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Treseder, of Sioux City, Iowa.
