Melvin D. Trometer

Melvin D. Trometer, 65, of Akron, died Tuesday, February 23,1999, at his residence. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, with the Rev. Justin May officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Hoschler Post 186 of Akron. Schroeder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pall bearers were Mike Hawks, Terry Clarey, Jerry McPherson, Mike Harvey, Dustin Appley and Randy Clarey. Pianist was Carol Harris with Jon Harris as soloist.

Mr. Trometer was born Jan. 13, 1934, on his parents' farm in rural Westfield, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Leota (Bogner) Trometer. He attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army as a field communications crewman from March 1956 to Feb. 1958. He was employed with the State Highway Department for 35 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of American Legion Hoschler Post 186 and Akron Senior Citizens Center. He enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include four sisters and their husbands, Neva and James Hawks, Alice and Kenneth Harvey, and lona and William Clarey, all of Akron, and Jeanette and James McPherson of Hawarden, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Merlin; and two sisters, Blanche and Marilyn
