Mrs. Walter J. Brunner, age 84, died Sunday, September 14, at the Akron Nursing Home, after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 17 at 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church, with Rev. Michael Connors officiating. Music, "Be Still My Soul and The City Fore Square" was sung by Mrs. Leslie Mitchell, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Orin Harris. Casket Bearers were: Leslie anderson, John Law, Jack Beam, Ed Nelson, Harry Nelson, Harry Nelson and Mac Thorson. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery, Under the direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brunner was born January 30, 1885 at Hudson, Iowa, the daughter of Isabel and Alexander Gillin. She graduated from the Doon, Iowa schools, Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, and attended the Morningside Conservatory of Music. She taught in the Doon school and at the old Hobson School in Sioux City. On February 22, 1912 she was united in marriage with Dr. Walter J. Brunner at her parents home in Sioux City. Their first home was in Westfield. In 1914, they moved to Akron where they resided the remainder of their lives.

Mrs. Brunner was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where she was active in the music, Sunday school and women's departments. she was a member of the Book and Thimble Federated Club, the Utilie Dulcie Club, Chapter J.C., P.E.O., and was a past matron of Vesper Chapter No. 61, O.E.S. She was also a past grand organist of the order. Mrs. Brunner was active in numerous social and community activities. Many Akron children began piano lessons in her home.

Survivors are: a daughter, Mrs. Raymond Hammerly of Newton, Iowa, two sisters, Mrs. Maude Beam, Sioux City and Mrs. Madge Kennedy of Wauketon, Illinois, and three grandchildren.

A memorial is being established in her memory at the United Methodist Church.
