CATHERINE STEICHEN

Miss Catherine Steichen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Steichen of Remsen, passed away suddenly Friday in the Sacred Heart Hospital. Cause of death is unknown. Miss Steichen, who was employed at Hammer’s short order café in LeMars, had only been sick one day.

Funeral services were held today, Monday, February 1, 1954, at 9:30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. George Theobald officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery under direction of the Fisch funeral home in Remsen.

Miss Steichen was born May 4, 1935, at Alton, Iowa. She moved with her parents in 1941 to Remsen where she was graduated from St. Mary’s high school in 1953. She was 18 years, 8 months, and 25 days of age at the time of her passing.

Survivors include her parents, eight brothers, Arnold of Remsen, Arthur and Matthew of Cedar Rapids, Francis of U.S. Navy, Alphonse of Maurice, Ia., Raymond and Leo of Tappen, North Dakota, and Clarence of Emery, S.D.. Nine sisters, Mrs. Ed Thill and JoAnn of Remsen, Mrs. Orman Lux of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Roy Glassmaker of Cleghorn, Iowa, Mrs. David Coco of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Leonard Keinert, Mrs. Sophie Dietermann and Mrs. H. Utesch all of LeMars, and Mrs. Al Boever of Alton.

The body was taken to the Fisch funeral home of Remsen. Six classmates acted as Pallbearers.
