Obituary:

Leonard D. Kruse, 83, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow and Rev. Peter Rosenkvist will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars with military honors provided by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Monday.

Leonard Dick Kruse was born on June 25, 1931 in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa to Harm and Louise (Ahrendt) Kruse. He went to country school and later helped his parents on the family farm. Leonard enlisted in the United States Army on November 19, 1952. He attained the rank of Corporal prior to earning an honorable discharge on October 29, 1954.

On April 27, 1957, Leonard and Charlotte Idean Miller were united in marriage at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Leonard took a position with Sioux Tools in Le Mars and retired as the plant manager.

Leonard was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars where he ushered and served on various committees. He was an active member of the Le Mars Sportsman Club. He also belonged to Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion and the Pioneer Machinery Club. He owned a rare 1954 Farmall Super MTA tractor that he was very proud of. Most important to Leonard was his faith and family. Spending time with his grandson, T.J., was at the top of the list.

Leonard will be lovingly remembered by his son, Tim Kruse and his wife Sherry of Le Mars, IA; a daughter, Linda Oxley and her husband Mike of Des Moines, IA; a grandson, T.J. Kruse of Le Mars, IA; sister, Lauretta Van Buskirk; a brother, Charles Kruse; and a niece, Beverly Van Buskirk all of Le Mars, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 56 years, Charlotte on March 31, 2014; granddaughter, Lynnae Kruse in 1993; mother and father-in-law, Charles and Ida (Peters) Miller; and a brother-in-law, William Van Buskirk.
