Gary R. Terrell, 68, of Merrill, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, in Sioux City.

Gary Ray Terrell was born on July 19, 1946, in Sioux City, the son of Harold and Lila Belle (Kennet) Terrell.

He attended high school in Hinton. Following high school, Gary began a lifelong career in trucking. In early years, he drove for various construction companies. He later trucked over the road.

He enjoyed camping with his family and friends. Playing cards was a favorite pastime, especially Texas Hold'em. Gary liked all kinds of food and was always snacking. He liked the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon.

Gary's faithful companion, a dachshund named Patches, went with him everywhere.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Donna Terrell, of Merrill; children, April (Brad) Deemer, of Homer, Neb., May (Noe) Mendez, of Dallas, Texas, John (Vicki) Terrell, of Whiting, Robert (Melissa) Hughes, of Akron, David (Michelle) Hughes, of Oyens, Allen Hughes, of Merrill, Christopher (Cindy) Hughes, of Westfield, Susan (special friend, Eric Kaster) Hughes, of George; 33 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Mona M. Nelson, of St. Cloud, Minn., Jack L. Terrell, of Westfield, Donna F. and William Danker, of Sergeant Bluff, Sharon and Ken Payne, of Sweeny, Texas, Eva B. and Duane O'Donniel, of Udell, Mo., Steven and Barbara Terrell, of Sioux City, and Bonnie and William Swearinger, of Scott City, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Harold C. Terrell.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, at St. John Lutheran Church, in Merrill. The Rev. Bert Burwell will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, in Le Mars.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Mauer Johnson Funeral Home, in Le Mars.

The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service on Friday.
