On Sunday morning the community was shocked upon hearing of the death of Mrs. John Bliss, who passed away very suddenly in her home at 5:00 a.m. Although Mrs. Bliss had been in delicate health for some time, the end came very unexpectedly.
Jennie Adeline Moniger was born at Calliope, Iowa, now known as Hawarden, Dec. 13, 1880. She was united in marriage with John O. Bliss on March 7, 1900. to this union four children were born Arnold Charles, who passed away at the age of 9 months; Roy Edward, Opal Lavina Hummel, and Eva Ruth Lilly; also five grandchildren all living in or near Westfield. She is also survived by seven sisters and one adopted brother.
Mrs. Bliss had lived in and about Westfield many years and to everyone was known as a true homemaker, one who lived for her home and family but ever ready to lend a helping hand or a word of cheer to those in sorrow or distress.
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, but to those who are left to mourn her untimely passing, her beautiful Christian life, should be an inspiration. The entire community extends profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the Congregational church Rev. Cassel, a former minister of Westfield, officiating. During the services Carl Lang, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Keith Knapp, very impressively sang two appropriate hymns and Rev. Cassel concluding his remarks, touchingly, sang a favorite hymn of the departed. Interment was made in the cemetery at Hawarden.
The pallbearers were O. B. Lilly, H. P. Lilly, Albert Harrington, Earl Michael, P. F. Tracy and Joe Hummel. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Nora Leubs of DeSmet, S. D.; Mrs. Delia Schuyler and Mrs. Hazel Hyde of Huron, S. D.; Mrs. Gertie Welton of Sioux ?City; Mrs. Pearl Nelson and Mrs. Bernice Fledler of Eagle Grove and Mrs. Lavon Hough, of Westfield, all sisters of the deceased, also Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Peck, Mr. andMrs. Harry Bliss, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Milton and Mrs. Loda Marshall, all of Sioux City, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tachampel and son Harold of Merrill.
