Michael A. Vander Schaaf, 60, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, 4130 War Eagle Drive, Sioux City. Burial will be at a later date in Civil Vend, Union County, S.D. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Cremation will follow the visition.

Michael Allan Vander Schaaf was born in Sioux City on May 26, 1947, the son of John and Geneva (Bensley, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa) Vander Schaaf. He grew up farming with his parents and siblings. He attended school in Westfield, Iowa.
On Jan. 20, 1967, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Thompson in Sioux City. The spent their years together in Sioux City. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for 40 years. He retired in 2000 from Iowa Veterinary Supply.

He was one of the Jehovah Witnesses, which was a focal point in his life. He enjoyed collecting classic cars, fishing, woodworking and family gatherings. He was a gentleman, devoted husband and father. Mike was not only a hero in his family's eyes, but better known to them as "Superman."

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Sioux City; two songs, Mike Jr. and Mitch and his wife, Josette, all of Sioux City; three daughters, Becky Dillion, Linda Dillion and Cortney Vander Schaaf, all of Sioux City; threee brothers, and their wives , Russ and Charlene Vander Schaaf of Akron, Iowa, Paul and Donna Vander Schaaf of Silver Spring, Fla., and Steve and Jamie Vander Schaaf of Hawarden, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, all of Sioux City; and three great-grandchildren, all of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jack and Dave Vender Schaaf.
