Robert H. "Bob" Grosenheider, 93, of Le Mars, died Monday, April 6, 2015, at Floyd Valley Hospital, in Le Mars.
Robert Henry Grosenheider was born Oct. 4, 1921, in Plymouth County, to Robert and Meta (Pageler) Grosenheider. He attended country school in Preston Township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, in rural Akron.
On Feb. 17, 1954, Bob and Violet Plueger were united in marriage at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township, rural Akron. Together Bob and Violet farmed in Plymouth County until 1972 and then moved to Le Mars.
They owned and operated Carmen's Dress Shop and Pretty Plus Women's Clothing, in downtown Le Mars, until 1993.
Bob resided at Plymouth Manor Care Center of Le Mars during the last two years of his life.
Bob was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, in Le Mars. In his earlier years, he served on the church council and as president of the congregation at the Preston Township church.
He was a member of the Eagles and Elks Club of Le Mars.
Bob was known for his warm smile and kindness.
The family spent their weekends at West Lake Okoboji for more than 25 summers.
Bob and Vi enjoyed dancing to "The Country Showmen," a local band that included their sons, John and Dave.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Violet, who resides at Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars; three children: John Grosenheider and his wife, Barbara, of Sioux Falls, S.D., David Grosenheider and his wife, Robin, of Le Mars, and Joel Grosenheider and his wife, Paula, of Moville; nine grandchildren, Jill and Mike Rudd, of Columbus, Ohio, Joshua Grosenheider, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jeff and Jessa Grosenheider, of Le Mars, Zachary and Austin Grosenheider, of Moville, Heather and Dan Jenkins, of Springfield, Ill., Matt and Ginny Mousel, of Sioux City, Stacy Mousel, of Sioux City, and Brenda Kutzler, of Sloan; great-grandchildren, Billie Joe Kuztler, James, Jacob and Jackson Jenkins, and Jordan Mousel.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Josie Popken, Vera Mammen, Elsie Oetken and Ann Jones; and a brother, Fred Grosenheider.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 13, at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Le Mars. The Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow and the Rev. Peter Rosenkvist will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mauer -- Johnson Funeral Home, in Le Mars, with the family present from 5-7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Monday.
Pallbearers will be Bob's grandchildren.
Memorials will be given to the Big Sioux Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and Hospice of Siouxland.
