Death of Pioneer, Settler
Early-day residents of this vicinity learn with regret of the death of Miles F. Smith at his home, Buffalo Gap, S. D. on May 22, 1910, of heart failure, after a long illness.
Mr. Smith came from the province of New Brunswich, Canada, in 1870, and settled on a homestead west of Akron, in Union county, S. D. He served two terms in the state legislature.
With his son, he moved to Buffalo Gap a number of years ago and engaged in the general merchandise business, being very successful and retiring about a year ago. About eight years ago he married Mrs. Kennedy, of this city, who, with two sons by a former wife, Will and Wood, survive.
The funeral was held at Buffalo Gap and interment made in the cemetery there.
