The Portlandville Record of the 26 ult., made the startling announcement of the death of Captain J. C. Kennedy, of that place. Mr. Kennedy has long been a resident and leading merchant there, he leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss.

His eldest son at the time of his death, was in the employment of Pew and LaRue's , and on learning the sad news, returned home.

Mr. Kennedy was well known here, and being a prominent leader in our Agricultural society and races will be greatly missed by his many sporting friends.
