Death of Akron Pioneer Woman,

Mrs. Miles Smith was born in the Province of New Brunswick, Canada, May 1, 1838, and died in Sioux City August 7, 1912, aged 74 years and about 3 months.

Deceased was married to Joseph Kennedy and came to the United States at the age of twenty years. They resided in Akron and vicinity for a number of years and Mr. Kennedy was engaged in business here for some time. He died July 2th, 1881, and was buried in the Akron cemetery about thirty-one years ago. A number of years ago Mrs. Kennedy married Miles Smith and they resided at Buffalo Gap, S. D, until his death about two years ago.

Her religious life began at Richland, S. D., about forty years ago, and when she came to Akron in the early days of the village she identified herself with the little company of Baptists whose history dates to about that time. Her interest in the church of her choice never waned. Many of the friends with whom she entered into Christian fellowship in this little church have preceded her to the home beyond, and now she, too, has ceased from her toil and gone to meet them on the other shore.

Deceased is survived by four sons and two daughters: James l. and Charles Kennedy of Sioux City; William Kennedy of Port Arthur, Canada, Chester Kennedy, present address not known; Mrs. Henry W. Farnham of Sioux City, and Mrs. Arnold Davis of New York City.

Funeral services were conducted at her late home in Sioux City last Friday morning by Rev. W. H. Swartz, of that city, former pastor of the Akron Baptist Church, after which the remains were brought to Akron for interment, accompanied by the children residing in Sioux City. A number of old-time friends met the remains and relatives at the depot. Rev. Swartz conducted the burial service at Riverside Cemetery.
