Wife Clara maiden name note: Her gravestone spells the name as Wynn.

Death Claims Leonard Smith Akron Resident

Following a long illness, Leonard G. Smith, 64, of Akron, died Thursday in a hospital in Sioux City.

He was born in Sweden March 3, 1878, and came as a child with his parents to America. They died a short time later.

The youth made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Cap Smith of Akron. He and Clara Winn were married in Sioux City 18 years ago. She died three years ago.

Mr. Smith was a member of Freedom Lodge, S. F. & A. M. He had been a lifelong emloyee of the late J. G. Wade of akron.

Surviving is a sister Anna Jenkins, of Akron.

Funeral services were held at Sioux City.

FORMER AKRON MAN CALED BY DEATH

Rites For Leonard G. Smith Held Saturday At Sioux City

Leonard G. Smith, a former well-known resident of Akron, passed away Thursday, March 19, 1942, at Sioux City, after an extended illness aged 64 years.

Leonard Anderson was born in Sweden March 3, 1878, and came to America when a child with his parents they locating in Akron. After the death of his father he was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. (Cap") Smith of this city, making his home with them until he reached man's estate. When a young man he gained quite a reputation here as a baseball player carring the nick-name "Fatty" Smith for many years, and was surprisingly active for his size and as goodhearted and good-natured as he was large. For several years he was a popular clerk in Akron general stores. Later he took a position as salesman for Wade and Burnight well-known Buick auto dealers and accompanied the firm to Sioux City, when it located there. He continued to work for the Wade Buick Company there for many years being an unusually successful salesman.

Mr. Smth and Clara Winn were married in Sioux City 18 years ago and made their home there. She preceded him in death three years ago. He is surived by a sister, Miss Anna Jenkins, of this city.

Funeral services were held in Sioux City, Saturday, at 2 p.m., in the W. Harry Christy Funeral Chapel, Rev. Arthur Dyson, pastor of this Crescent Park Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City.
