SUDDENLY LAST THURSDAY NIGHT

Rites Held Monday For Lifelong Resident Of This Vicinity

Frank Smith, a resident of Plymouth County all his life, passed away very suddenly at his home here last Thursday evening, March 6, 1952, at about 10:00 o'clock, on his 68th birthday. On July 2, 1947, he suffered a stroke and was bedridden for a long period, but eventually recovered sufficiently to become quite active again, although his health always remained impaired.

Ira Franklin Smith was born in Westfield Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, on March 6, 1884, the son of the late John B. and Elizabeth Smith. He grew up on the farm and had a country school education. On February 26, 1908, he was united in marriage with Elvera J. Sorensen at Elk Point, S. D. They lived on the home place near Akron for many years, and just last year moved to town.

Mr. Smith was baptized in infancy and in 1949 united with the Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow and the seven children born to them. The five sons are: Harry R., of O'Neill, Nebr.; Ward, John and Robert, all of Akron; and Virgil in the armed forces, stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. The two daughters are Ella (Mrs. Melvin Johnson) of Akron, and Hope (Mrs. O. L. Harbeck) of Sioux City. Surviving also are one brother, John W. Smith, of Lucas, S. D.; and two sisters, Mrs. Ada Norton and Mrs. Zella Buryandek of Burke, S. D.; and eleven grandchilren, many other relatives, and a great many friends.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters and a granddaughter, JoAnn Smith.

Frank Smith was held in high regard by al who knew him for his many fine qualities, and widespread sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.

There was a very large attendance at the funeral services held Monday afternoon at Wesley Methodist Church, Rev. H. Myron Braun officiating. A male quartet, comprised of Melvin Lias, Karl Silkebakken, J. R. Shoulberg and H. B. Nelson, sang and Mrs. H. B. Nelson, sang and Mrs. H. B. Nelson was accompanist. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.

A large number of relatives and friends from a distance attended the funeral services.
