Mrs. Frank (Elvera) Smith
Mrs. Frank (Elvera) Smith, 95, longtime Akron area resident, deid Sunday (Sept. 6, 1987) in the Akron City Convalescent Care Center after a long illness.
Services were held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday in Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. The Rev. Peter Peterson officiaed. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery under directon of Schroeder Funeral Home.
Vocalist was Mary Gale, who sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "In The Garden", accompanied by pam Stowe, organist.
Pallbearers were eugene Harbeck, Dennis Smith, Daryl Smith, Ronnie Smith, Clifford Johnson, and Russell Johnson. Honary bearers were Julisu Willer, Ed Willer, Arvil Rozell, Matt Gale, Henry Eichacker, and Harvey Taylor.
Mrs. Smith, the former Elvera Jensena Soreson, was born Nov. 1, 1891, in Sioux City to Christian and Jensena Jensen Sorensen. She married Frank Smith Feb. 26, 1908, in Elk Point, S. D. The couple farmed in the Akron area all their married life and retired to Akron in 1950. Mr. Smith died March 6, 1952, at Akron.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, and a charter member of the Farmerettes club.
Survivors include two sons, Ward of O'Neill, Neb., and Virgil of Akron; two daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Ella) Johnson of Akron and Mrs. Orville (Hope) Harbeck of Sioux City; a brother, Nels Sorensen of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, three brothers, three sons, Harry, Jack, and Bob; and two grandchildren, JoAnn Smith and Jerry Smith.
