DIED

John Beckman, a well known farmer residing northeast of here in Preston township, passed away at about 6;30 p.m. Thursday, Septmeber 18, 1919, after a few days' illness of paralysis. He was stricken the Sunday before while at the home of a neighbor, Jacob Euken, whose wife and baby had died.

Mr. Beckman was taken to his home and given every care and attention, and rallied for a time, but gradually became worse until the final summons came. He was 53 years, 4 months and 6 days of age.

John Henry Beckmann was born May 16, 1866, in Wiesedemir, Germany, where he was also baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. In 1891 he was joined in holy wedlock with Miss Augusta Kosch, and to the union one child, a son, was born; but in the same year he lost his wife by death.

In the year 1893 he came to America settling in northwestern Plymouth County, Iowa, where he had lived ever since. On February 28th, 1896 he was joined in holy wedlock for the second time, and this time with Mary Gerdes. This union was blessed with ten children--six daughters and one son--one daughter preceding him into eternity.

Left to mour his death are his wife, five sons and five daughters, and also his aged mother, three brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Beckman followed the occupation of farming all his life. He was very industrious, a devoted husband and father and a good neighbor, who will be greatly missed in his home community.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. F. A. Meske, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, Sunday afternoon at three o'clock, were probably the most largely attended ever held in that edifice. There were many beautiful floral offerings. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Akron.
