Death of Mrs. Catherine Brown

The death of Mrs. Catherine Brown took place at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. William Miller, Sunday evening, November 24.

Mrs. Brown was born near Louisville, Kentucky, February 17, 1805, and was therefore nearly ninety years of age at the time of her death. She was married in 1825 to Joshua Brown in Ohio and came to Iowa in 1828 settling near Maquoketa.

Of nine children, six survive her. The wife of the late Colonel Frank Amos, of Le Mars, was her daughter.

Mrs. Brown had been very well all summer but was taken violently ill about three days before her death and suffered great pain from a complicated heart and stomach trouble.

The funeral was held from the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she was a member, on Monday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. Joel A. Smith.

Thus was a long and useful life brought to a close.
