Final Rites For Charles P. Brown
Farmed Here In His Younger Days
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Methodist church at Newell for Charles P. Brown, 74, a former resident of Plymouth county who died August 15. Rev. Charles W. G. Hiller officiated.
Charles Porter Brown, son of John and Sarah Miller Brown, was born at Lanark, Ill., October 31, 1867. After his childhood and youth in Lanark, upon obtaining legal age, he was united in marriage to Lucy Ellen Larker on August 7, 1888, at Lanark. The young couple moved to Le Mars in 1890. Here they spent ten years on a farm in America township, later moving on the Loring ranch near Kingsley where they farmed ten years.
Following the years at Kingsley they moved to the vicinity of Fonda and established their home on a farm near Newell which has continuously been their home for more than thirty years.
Two children were born to them. One died in infancy. The other is Mrs. Edna Harvey of Newell. Also suriviing is a borther, George Brown, and five grandchildren, children of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Harvey. One is in service with the army, one in the navy and three are at the parental home.
In earlier years Charles was active in Odd Fellows and Farm Bureau circles but in recent years the infirmities of age compelled the relinquishing of those duties to other hands.
