Death of Miss Carrie Brown

Miss Carrie Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Brown, of Washington Township, died at the city hospital at Le Mars, on Monday afternoon about half past four o'clock.

Miss Brown had been teaching at the Goudie School in Union Township and on Saturday afternoon her father went out there to bring her home to spend Sunday. Miss Brown had not been feeling well and on their arrival in Le Mars on their way home, she was so ill that she was taken to the hospital on the advice of Dr. J. M. Fettes.

She was suffering from tubercular penitonitis and it was decided that an immediate operation was necessary. Dr. Warren of Sioux City came up and performed the operation on Sunday evening.

She suffered an attack of measles some weeks ago but had recovered and resumed her work, and although not feeling well for the past six weeks stuck to her work and continued teaching until last Friday.

Miss Brown was born in America Township on July 31, 1886, and was educated in the schools of the county and then attended Western Union College being a graduate of that institution. She fitted herself for a teacher and had been teaching school in the country for the past two years with success. She was a young woman of a genial and sunny disposition and was a favorite among a large number of friends. Her death will cast a shadow in the household of many of her friends. Besides the bereaved parents she leaves two brothers, Charles and George [Lester] to mourn her early death.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the First Methodist Church, Rev. G. F. Whitefield, pastor of the First Methodist Church and Rev. Geo. Gilbert of Merrill officiating and was largely attended by sympathizing friends.
