Sioux City Journal, Sioux City, Woodbury, Iowa July 3, 2014]

Wayne J. Stodden, 81, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at his home.

A celebration of life service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. All family and friends are welcome. Condolences/memorials may be sent to the church.

Wayne was born on Jan. 10, 1933, and grew up on a farm in Kingsley, Iowa. He was the son of Sophie and Francis Stodden. He attended Kingsley High School and St Michael's Church. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 20 and was stationed in the States from 1953 to 1955. He then moved to Sioux City and drove a truck for a few years. He also enjoyed working at Armour Packing House for 15 years. He then operated his own tree trimming business from 1968 to 1975. He thoroughly enjoyed this job and later became disabled from a tree trimming accident.

He loved playing cards with his friends and was pretty good at pitch. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Wayne enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, playing cards and spending holidays and special events with the Stodden and Schreiner families.

He is survived by his two sisters, Marie and Martin Schreiner of Maurice, Iowa, and Donna and Denny Leuwerke of Winterset, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews, all who dearly loved him.

He will be welcomed into heaven by his parents, Sophie and Francis Stodden; brothers Carl, Glenn, Leonard and Lavern; and special friend, Mary Lou Gritten.

Eternal rest grant unto him oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.
