EMMA E. TRAFFORD – WAS LONGTIME TELEPHONE OPERATOREmma E. Trafford, who died Tuesday at University hospitals, Iowa City, was a lifelong LeMars resident.
She had been employed here as a telephone operator from the time she graduated from high school until the Central Telephone Co. installed the dial system several years ago.
Miss Trafford died following an illness of several months. She had been hospitalized at Iowa City 10 days. Her home was at 400 Sixth St. SW.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Masuen of LeMars and Louise Haack of Remsen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Otellia Trafford, and two sisters, Agatha and Gladys.
Miss Trafford was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, church women’s guild and LeMars Swiss Club.
Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Friday at St. John United Church of Christ. Rev. Sherwood Haas will officiate. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home after 2 p. m. Thursday. A prayer service at the funeral home will be held at 8 p. m.

Funeral services for Miss Emma E. Trafford, 56, lifelong resident of LeMars, who died Tuesday at an Iowa City, Ia., hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John’s United Church of Christ.
Rev. Sherwood Haas will officiate. Burial will be in the LeMars Memorial cemetery.
A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home.
Miss Trafford was born January 19, 1908, at LeMars.
She was a telephone operator here from 1926 until dial telephones were installed when she retired.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Masuen of LeMars, and Mrs. Louis Haack of Remsen.
