MRS. WASMER TAKEN BY DEATH
OPERATED LAUNDRY IN LE MARS MANY YEARS

Mrs. Emily Wasmer, 85, an early settler in Le Mars, died Tuesday, December 16, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Groves, 24 Third Avenue SE.

Mrs. Wasmer had been in failing health for some time due to increasing age but death came unexpectedly.

Mrs. Wasmer was born at Woking, Somersetshire, England, June 28, 1856, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Davey. When she was sixteen years of age she emigrated to Canada and lived in Toronto and at Marion, Indiana, until coming to Le Mars in the eighties where she made her home with the exception of late years when she spent some of the time in California.

While living in Toronto, Canada, she was married to George H. Groves. Three children were born to them, Mrs. Vance Oathout of Indianapolis, Bert Groves of this city and Fred Groves.

After coming to Le Mars she was married to the late Leonard R. Wasmer. They operated the Wasmer Laundry in Le Mars for many years and had a successful business. The Wasmer Laundry had an established reputation in northwest Iowa due in a great measure to her energetic business methods and good management.

Mrs. Wasmer was an active member of the Episcopal church and a member of St. George's church in Le Mars. She was possessed of a jovial, hearty nature and was liberal in charity work without ostentation. She had many friends especially among the older residents of Le Mars.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon in the Wiltgen funeral chapel. Rev. C. H. Paulson of St. George's church, conducted the service. Interment was made in the city cemetery.
